Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg

Local anchorage, international reputation

Created by Constance Mozart in 1841, the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg ranks today among Austria’s leading symphony orchestras. Since 2004, Ivor Bolton has been chief conductor of this illustrious ensemble.
The Mozarteum Orchestra organizes two concert series of its own: the Sunday Matinees in the Grosses Festspielhaus and the Thursday Concerts in the Grand Hall of the Mozarteum Foundation.
The Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg excels in a wide repertoire, ranging from Viennese Classicism to contemporary music. It regularly performs Mozart matinees and opera productions at the Salzburg Festival and is also one of the main participants in the Salzburg Mozart Week.
At the Salzburg Landestheater the orchestra mainly performs lyric repertoire, from opera and operetta to ballet and musicals, and at the Salzburg Kulturvereinigung the ensemble performs the big symphonic repertoire.
A special concern of the Mozarteum Orchestra is working with young musicians within the framework of their youth project „2ORCHESTRAS“.
On its international tours the Mozarteum Orchestra acts as musical ambassador, representing the town and region of Salzburg.
The 91-musicians strong orchestra has been led by prestigious guest conductors, such as Trevor Pinnock, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Hans Graf, Robin Ticciati, Mark Minkowski, Mark Elder, Frans Bruggen, Ton Koopmann, Andris Nelsons and Mark Wigglesworth.
The orchestra’s performances are well documented on CD and DVD.
Official main sponsors of the Mozarteum Orchestra are Mercedes-Benz Österreich and Leica Camera AG.
