Hiroshi Aoshima is the conductor of Kanagawa Philharmonic Orchestra.

The Kanagawa Philharmonic Orchestra was established in 1970 as the first professional orchestra in Kanagawa Prefecture. In 1978 it was authorized as an incorporated foundation by the prefectural government. As the cultural symbol of Kanagawa, the orchestra has been actively performing in major concert halls within the prefecture, such as Kanagawa Kenmin Hall and Yokohama Minatomirai Hall. In addition to subscription concerts, its performances of ballets, operas, student concerts, charity concerts for handicapped people, and of other genres are also highly valued by audiences.

The orchestra is supported by the Kanagawa Prefectural Government, the Cities of Yokohama and Kawasaki, and the Agency for Cultural Affairs. Former conductors and directors include such renowned talents as Kazuo Yamada, Yuzo Toyama and Ikuma Dan. In 2002 Shigeo Genda was appointed Principal Conductor, and Koichi Fujino, the Pops Orchestra Music Director. The Kanagawa Philharmonic Orchestra invited Hanns-Martin Schneidt, who has built a distinguished career in Germany, to serve as Music Director from 2007.
